California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) is seeking a technologically sophisticated, visionary, and forward-thinking leader to serve as its founding Associate Vice President (AVP) for University Effectiveness, Planning, & Analytics. CSUDH is a highly diverse, metropolitan university primarily serving the South Bay area of Los Angeles County. Established in 1960, CSU Dominguez Hills is one of the 23 campuses that comprise the California State University system. A public, co-education institution, Dominguez Hills enrolls nearly 15,000 students across six colleges. The University is a leader in developing outstanding programs that foster a college-focused culture in the communities it serves, with a goal of becoming a national model for student success grounded in academic excellence. The 346-acre campus is in Carson, California, just 10 miles from the beach and 13 miles from downtown Los Angeles.
Reporting to the Vice President and Chief Information Officer, the AVP will build a new office to strategically support and facilitate data driven decision-making for all divisions of the University in support of its mission and strategic goals. The new leader will create a vision for this office, as well as manage its human, fiscal, and technological resources. The AVP will lead a team that collects data of the highest integrity, unifies data sets into one central system, responds to requests for data queries, uses predictive modeling, and streamlines data access. This leader will also think critically about what questions the University should be asking to prompt creative data collection and data mining that will help leaders think strategically about the future. To accomplish the department's goals, the AVP will work across divisions with an incredibly broad array of stakeholders and will train constituents on data methodology and analysis.
The successful candidate will have at least five years of demonstrated experience in the field of institutional planning, research, or information management/analytics and three years of supervisory experience. This person must have a track-record of developing divisional strategies, leading teams, and working with unstructured data to find the truth behind observations. The AVP should have a strong sense of predictive analytics, quantitative research methods, advanced algorithms, and using or leading data warehouse efforts. This leader must have exceptional communication skills and the ability to synthesize and present complex data in a clear, concise, and understandable manner. This person should be on the forefront of big data technology and the tools available in this ever-changing landscape. Above all, the AVP must have a deep commitment to working with people of diverse backgrounds, and a passion for the mission of public higher education. A Master's degree is required and a Doctoral degree is preferred.
