This position reports to the Director of the Enterprise Technology group, and is primarily responsible for the data administration and visualization functions in IT. As a member of Technology Services (WCTS), this position collaborates with other members of IT to provide an information technology environment that is consistent with the goals of Whitman College and meets the needs of faculty, staff, and students.
Lead data warehousing for IT through a variety of activities:
Work with campus offices to identify, analyze and model data to be warehoused.
Serve as project manager for all data warehousing projects.
Use data warehousing tools to transform source data into accessible and sustainable warehouse tables for data consumers.
Create, maintain and publish data definitions for all data in the warehouse.
Consult with Data Advisory Group to define and prioritize data warehousing activities.
Develop and enable a process for recording access decisions for warehouse data.
Work with other Enterprise Technology staff to develop data integrity reports that support data warehouse accuracy.
Serve as IT subject expert for data visualization technologies, including Tableau and R. In this capacity, work closely with Institutional Research to help develop the College’s capabilities for data visualization and dashboarding.
Serve as primary IT liaison to Institution Research for both data reporting and visualization technologies.

Familiarity with dimensional modeling concepts and techniques.
Familiarity with ETL (extract, transform, load) data processing.
Demonstrated experience with data visualization projects.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to establish and maintain cooperative and harmonious working relationships with a variety of campus constituencies.
Strong ability and commitment to troubleshooting issues in a variety of contexts, including those outside of one’s immediate responsibilities.
Experience creating documentation for data and/or business processes.
Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with vendors in obtaining software support.
Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
Satisfactory clearance of background check.
Experience working with and protecting sensitive, regulated (HIPAA, FERPA, and other PII) data.
Project management experience in a cross-functional environment.
Demonstrated experience with Kimball dimensional modeling for data warehousing.
Experience using supporting technologies for this position, including WhereScape REDand/or other ETL tools; Tableau Desktop and R Studio; and Microsoft T-SQL.
Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or data science.
