Duties & Responsibilities Harvard Kennedy School is launching a new program initiative that will offer online courses for mid-career professionals. This program will expand the reach of HKS knowledge, ideas, skills and practices into the world and enable working professionals to become better equipped to advance the public good as leaders. As part of this work, we are looking for a creative, solutions-oriented team player to fill the role of project manager.
The project manager will be part of a matrix team in the academic dean's office consisting of designers and technologists who work closely with faculty and other HKS administrators and staff. This team's primary focus is on designing, developing, and delivering a series of online courses and an online capstone experience.
This position is fully benefits eligible term appointment for two years with a strong likelihood of renewal for the next two years.
Work closely with faculty, teaching teams, learning designers, technologists, producers, and outsourcers to develop new online courses for adult learners in the policy, leadership, and public administration domain, including definition of course learning objectives.
Manage project schedules: assess needs and detailed work plans.
Responsible for budget and multi-year forecasting.
Manage work across matrix team to ensure projects are progressing per schedule.
Identify risks and roadblocks and escalate to management for action.
Oversee identification and resolution of issues and communicate clear and timely updates to stakeholders.
Document existing business processes and recommend process improvements as opportunities arise.
Document functional and business requirements and interpret requirements as needed.
Coordinate, schedule, and staff meetings.
Minimum of three years related professional experience in project management
Experience working with faculty in a college/university setting.
Blended, online, and/ or massive open online course (MOOC) learning knowledge and experience.
Strong awareness of how business and technical issues impact overall project plans.
Ability to interpret customer business needs and translate them into application and operational requirements.
Proven record of managing tasks to meet the limits of time, scope, and budget.
Proven creative problem-solving and analytical skills.
Proven ability to deliver quality analysis in a complex environment.
Advanced desktop application skills (e.g., Excel, MS Project, PowerPoint), productivity tools (e.g., BaseCamp, Google Drive, DropBox).
Ability to work with limited supervision in a fast-paced, ever-changing team environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, presentation skills, and project management skills.
Other responsibilities as assigned.
