Department Summary Information Services (IS) is the central information technology unit for the University of Oregon. IS provides and supports campus-wide services in the areas of technology support, enterprise applications, middleware, information security, systems and operations, and data networking and telecommunications. Position Summary Information Services (IS) at the University of Oregon (UO) integrates and supports enterprise applications for the University; this position will provide expertise in configuration, support of Microsoft based servers and software systems for the University of Oregon.
Reporting to the Director of Enterprise Systems, the Systems Infrastructure Specialist will be part of a team devoted to installation, configuration, and maintenance of miscellaneous Windows applications focusing on Microsoft and other commercial application platforms.
The position does not directly supervise any employees, however, the individual is responsible for delegating work to and accepting technical work from members of the Systems and Operations team. The position is also responsible for developing repeatable procedures for Operations staff to follow.
The position will participate in both formal and informal procurement and other decision making with financial implications. The position will have minimal budget authority.
Work Schedule This position is expected to participate in the Systems team on-call rotation.
Minimum Requirements This classification requires a basic foundation of knowledge in operating systems programs, maintenance, systems administration, and network systems that would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree, preferably in computer science, engineering mathematics, telecommunications or a related technical field, or equivalent technical training and/or experience.
Professional Competencies • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a technical team • Application administration experience with primary responsibilities to maintain critical applications and infrastructure • Systems automation; ability to automate repetitive tasks and identify solutions to streamline daily operations • Strong multi-tasking skills
Preferred Qualifications • Knowledge of Linux operating systems, maintenance, administration, and networking • Windows server systems administration experience in a production environment with demonstrated increasing responsibility • Demonstrated experience implementing and maintaining information technology security best practices. • Demonstrated experience writing new scripts to automate complex repetitive tasks • Demonstrated knowledge in systems automation, capacity planning, and documentation • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server database administration • Experience with McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator or other enterprise antivirus solutions • Experience with secure support platforms like Bomgar and LogMeIn • Experience participating in common project management concepts and practices • Experience with scalable monitoring and out of band server management technologies including Nagios, Zabbix, SCOM, and Dell OpenManage • Experience with ITSM/ITIL concepts including Incident and Change Management
