PURPOSE OF POSITION: As an integral part of the Information Technology Services (ITS) team, this position is a crucial to the support of computing at Marylhurst University. The Associate Systems Administrator primarily manages desktop management tools, including SCCM and Jamf. The administrator will work closely with ITS Technology Support staff to ensure a safe and reliable desktop computing experience for campus.
Responsible for image creation, management and deployment of operating systems, applications, and patches to faculty, staff, lab, and classroom computers and mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones across campus.
Centrally manage desktop and lab/classroom computers and mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones using SCCM, Active Directory, Group Policy, Jamf Casper, OSX Server, and scripting technologies.
Includes management of all software updates both first and third party for common applications, creation and deployment of application packages, antivirus and antimalware management.
Provide direct, quick and efficient technology support for users using university managed computers including acting as a point of escalation for issues from other support staff.
Manage network-based printers and the print server.
Implement and manage compliance with university computing initiatives such as environmental and security policies.
Interface with colleagues to find solutions that benefit the department and university as a whole.
Maintain a current knowledge of computing best practices and trends in order to proactively identify computer problems; recommend and implement solutions.
Maintain clear documentation on all processes and systems.
Expert knowledge of SCCM.
Knowledge of image creation, management, and deployment applications, workflows, and practices in Apple and Windows environments.
Knowledge of Microsoft Domain management tools: remote desktop support, domain membership, and group policies.
Understand common networking and storage systems (e.g. Active Directory, Network Attached Storage, etc.).
Demonstrate project management skills, including managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
High degree of accountability, ability to accept highly visible responsibilities and take ownership of issues.
Expert level knowledge of desktop operating systems (particularly supported versions of Microsoft Windows).
Ability for self-directed learning about technology that is relevant to the position.
Ability to troubleshoot and use analytical skills to solve issues.
Must be able to work with sensitive and/or confidential information and to handle such information as required by Federal, State, and University regulations/policies.
Knowledge of enterprise computer management & software deployment software for Apple and Windows (e.g., SCCM, JAMF Casper Suite, etc.).
Knowledge and experience using Mobile Device Management systems.
Experience providing support to Apple desktops.
Experience providing computing support in a higher education, enterprise environment.
Demonstrated capability with Microsoft Servers, VMware, Linux servers.
Experience with command line and scripting languages, such as PowerShell, BASH, or Python.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience.
Minimum of two years’ experience in enterprise desktop support.
Superb communication skills including in person, phone, and virtual/remote modalities.
Proven ability to communicate informally, in person and in writing, in terms that are meaningful to non-technologists, including understanding their environment and needs and empowering them to master and use technology.
Proven ability to write useful, accessible, and appropriate documentation and training materials for end-users of technology.
Proven ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with technical staff about technical issues.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to lift and move boxes and equipment weighing up to 45 pounds, sometimes in awkward locations.
