Job Description: The University of Nevada, Reno Office of Information Technology is hiring a Director of Cyberinfrastructure.
The Director of Cyberinfrastructure is responsible for conceptualizing, developing and implementing on an ongoing basis creative and unprecedented solutions to the most challenging technical problems and opportunities presented to the University of Nevada, Reno research enterprise through a strategic campus cyberinfrastructure. The Director of Cyberinfrastructure is the most senior executive with dedicated responsibility for the University's major, complex research technology support program for initiatives in areas including but not limited to systemic data management, advanced analytics, high performance computing, visualization, advanced networking and virtual organizations. In that capacity, the Director of Cyberinfrastructure conceptualizes, determines, formulates and effectuates the methods and means for policies and programs for the entire University to support, enhance and increase the millions of dollars of extramural funding received by the University annually. This individual collaborates and advises on securing extramural funding in support of institutional plans and priorities. The unique nature of this position requires substantial personal interfacing, planning and collaboration with academic and technical leaders at the most senior levels of the University, and outside UNR, regionally, nationally and internationally including with private sector collaborators and federal agency officials in Nevada and Washington, D.C. This position reports directly to the Vice Provost for Information Technology/CIO, and calls for occasional travel and a variable work schedule as needed for special projects.

Required Qualifications: Master’s degree in a discipline making extensive use of advanced cyberinfrastructure and four years of related professional or managerial work experience; or Doctorate degree and two years of related professional or managerial work experience. Related experience is defined as in a professional information technology enterprise environment with responsibilities for the application and support of advanced cyberinfrastructure for research and innovation. Proven track record in conceiving, developing and executing significant extramural proposals and projects in advanced cyberinfratructure. An established record of accomplishments demonstrated by engagement with researchers and users as well as extensive experience with managing, operating and delivering research cyberinfrastructure services.
